7. Why do all phone numbers in Hollywood films start with '555'?
30 years ago or more when the use of exchange names as part of the telephone number was still popular in the USA. Dials had letters as well as numbers and the first 3 letters of the exchange name were dialled followed by numbers. An example might be CENtral 78978. You dialled CEN 78978 or, using all numbers, 236 78978. It so happened that 5 on the dial corresponded with J K and L and you can’t make any English place names using any combination of J, K and L as the first 3 letters. So the 555 code was allocated to service levels such as Directory Assistance, Operator, Repair Service, etc.
Due to the "low fill" of the 555 code, Hollywood was encouraged to quote 555 numbers in their productions to prevent real subscribers being harassed by members of the public trying out the numbers quoted on the screen.

Week 2 Tute 10:00~12:00

Hello everyone this week I am going to discuss about my own experience with communication technology. There is TV, mobile phone, Internet, PDA and so on.

Nowadays, TV has been become a part of our life. People can’t stay at home without TV because we usually get all of Information from TV such as advertisement and news. The another amazing invent of the society is mobile phone, mobile phone is not like past time, it has been changed, now we can watch TV, listen to Mp3 and get into the internet. By the way I don’t really like it because I like watch anything with big screen, so I still like use a computer with big screen. Then, you know what I am going to talk about that’s right? As I mention last week I come from Taiwan. I usually go back to Taiwan once a year, so I have to keep in contact with my parents. I always remember when I studied English language course in Australia, my parents phoned me once a week because it was a long distance call, so it was cost a lot of money. The wonderful thing is from this year, we found out how to use the Internet phone and the Web camera which is convenient and useful. Now we can talk and see my parents on the internet all the time. The most important thing is the internet phone is FREE. I stuck on internet very much. Ok it is a little story .Of course, the Internet is not only like this. Additional, PDA is a useful technology of today’s society. PDA has navigation
system which can help people to find right destination, thus people will never get lose.
Finally, those technologies help people very much though it often cost a lot of money.
